Short Path Distillery Seasonal Collab

Community is one thing that Revolution Axe cares deeply about! We strive to find ways to foster relationships with not only our beloved throwers, but with the local businesses in our neighborhood as well! Last year, at the end of May, we had the great pleasure of collaborating with our good friends at Bone Up Brewing Company to create our Revolution Axe House Beer- Unsheathed, which still continues to be a delight to newer guests and tenured league members alike! We are now proud to present our newest collaboration with our friends at Short Path Distillery! We are now serving Seasonal Pre-batched cocktails that will reflect and highlight the Pre-MEER product that is offered at their distillery, with our own little axe throwing twist! Currently we are using their newest New England Single Malt Whiskey and their Seasonal Gins, but who knows what the future holds?! We are truly excited for this opportunity and cannot wait for our Rev Fam to try!

Beating The Winter Blues At Revolution Axe Throwing

If you’re lucky enough to have lived in Boston for a few years, you probably know a thing or two about winter. You know where to buy ice melt in advance of the weather warning for a Nor’easter. You know which side of the street you need to parallel park on when the blue lights are flashing. And you know exactly what space saver you’re using this year when you finish shoveling out your car.

Sure, New Englanders are naturals at battling a blizzard, and we’re even better at complaining about the winter. But one great thing about having brutal winters is finding a new indoor activity with your friends that’s fun year round. Enter Revolution Axe Throwing in Everett.

Picture this: first, you actually have an easy time parking since the last snowstorm. You take off your arctic-grade parka and your best friend hands you a craft beer. One of our personable and patient instructors teaches you how to throw and how to compete tournament-style. You have an absolute blast with your friends in a private lane and completely forget about how your hands went numb this morning because you still needed a large regular iced coffee.

If that sounds appealing, book now to secure a lane with your group! As you can imagine, winter’s our busy season so lanes will book quickly!

Book Your Event With Us!

That's where we come in. We're pretty good at coordinating corporate parties, whether you're interested in a few private lanes or a full buyout! And we heard throwing axes around is a great way to relieve stress. But we also have a great beer selection just in case that doesn't do the trick.

Word has spread that we throw the best parties, so we're booking up quickly this year. Be sure to contact us soon for more info.

There’s Love (And Axes)In The Air

We’re here to remind you that axe throwing is for lovers (and friends)!

Around this time of year, we think everyone could use a night out at Revolution Axe Throwing in Everett, MA no matter where they fall on the single-to-relationship scale. Why’s that you ask? We can break it down for you!

  • For those in long-term relationships - Material Valentine’s Day gifts are so 2019. Treat your partner to an experience they won’t forget! Share a night of great drinks, friendly competition, and something fun you don’t get to do everyday!

Holiday Parties At Revolution Axe Throwing

No one knows the stress of event planning like an HR department in November. Not every company is blessed with an in-house Party Planning Committee - I mean, Events Department. Which means this stress usually falls to the HR department, office admin team, or executive assistant team. As if you all don’t already have a full-time job on your hands.

We’d like to introduce you to a new title you’re free to use this time of year: Resident Fun Facilitator.

Actual image of a Resident Fun Facilitator at a Revolution Axe Holiday Party.

At Revolution Axe Throwing, we work closely with Resident Fun Facilitators to plan events that your coworkers are actually excited about. Think friendly competition, large group accommodation, a great selection of drinks and options for catering! I mean, people are actually going to leave their home office for this!

We’re aware there’s a shared pressure among Resident Fun Facilitators to feel like everyone is having a good time. Well let us assure you - EVERYONE WILL HAVE A GOOD TIME. Even Karen from Accounting, even George from Sales. Our Staff is Boston-renown for their coaching expertise, humor, and all-around badassery. You’ll love them so much you’ll want to hire them too. And our drinks?! Don’t get us started on the selection of local brews, ciders and wines perfect for cheers-ing to a great Q4 or holiday season.

So what are you waiting for? We’re running out of nights and weekends to host your event, so hit us up to start planning (we promise, it’s easy!) Call us at (617) 944-9663 or fill out a form and we’ll reach out!

Fall At Revolution Axe Throwing

We New Englanders really know how to enjoy fall. We’re spoiled with the most spectacular displays of foliage the country has to offer (and crowded hiking trails to view them from), a whole slew of spooky locations to tour, a legendary football team to cheer for, and a seemingly unlimited supply of apple cider donuts and pumpkin cream cold brews to consume. But all this fun autumnal stuff is hiding why we locals really live up this 2-3 week season - and that’s the fact that we are all in denial that another New England winter is gearing up to test our limits.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_2513.jpg

So let’s relish in that denial a bit longer, shall we? There’s no better place to welcome the Fall season than Revolution Axe Throwing in Everett, Massachusetts! Looking for a dense population of buffalo plaid wearers? Check - year round in fact. How about seasonal, local craft brews in a cozy yet spacious environment? Check - ALWAYS! What about the unrelated yet still solid promise of a parking lot in the Greater Boston Area? Dude, we have one!

Excited? You should be! But we realize there’s one group of professionals that are dreading the oncoming winter more than your average pumpkin beer drinker - and that’s HR MANAGERS AND OFFICE ADMINS. We see you and support your quest to find the best, actual FUN place to host a holiday party or corporate event, and we know how you people like to plan early. So if you’re faced with the responsibility of ensuring your entire workspace actually wants to leave their home office and communicate with each other in-person in the dead of winter outside work hours, we are giving you a layup here! Spots are limited and are filling up quickly, so call ((617) 944-9663) or contact us today to lock in throwing bays for your corporate outing.

We can’t wait to see you this season at Rev Axe!

Rev Axe Turns 2!

This month, Revolution Axe Throwing in Everett, MA turns 2 years old!
We’ve made some incredible memories in this place over the past 2 years, and if you know anything about our staff, you know we’re basically family. RevAxe is a weird and wonderful place, welcoming of all who walk through our doors - beginner to expert.

Even though 2020 challenged us (as it did countless other businesses), our incredible team of coaches, community members, management, and customers alike kept up our hopes for reopening. We’re so happy to say this new normal feels great, and we’re happy to still be throwing with YOU!

In the past 2 years, we’ve welcomed hundreds of throwers into our community. Whether you came for a bachelorette or a work event, joined a league, stopped in on a date, or came to hone your skills further, we’re happy you chose us and look forward to seeing you again.

And to our incredible staff, this month is a celebration of you! RevAxe would not be what it is without you.

Cheers (with craft beers) to many more years!

Meet The Rev Axe Community: 3

We’re back with the third installment of Rev Axe community intros! Today, say hello to Austin and Liam!

austin.jpg

In West Hartford, Connecticut born and raised, Austey James was spendin’ most of his dayz. Chillin’ out, maxin’, relaxin’ all cool, throwing some axes when he’s not in school (for marketing). When a couple of guys who were up to some good started hittin’ bullseyes in his neighborhood! He threw in one little game and we all got stoked and such, he said his fav part of RevAxe will always be yellin’ CLUTCH! Austin also likes yelling and does comedy in Boston.

Meet Liam! He has yet to master a trick shot but hopes to in the near future (he could’ve lied here and chose not to)! He started axe throwing with some friends back home in the woods of CT (as all of the best have) so he figured he’d apply for an axe throwing job while he’s still in Boston for school. Outside of RevAxe, he’s a senior at Suffolk University studying theatre and plans to pursue a career as a performer.

Meet The Rev Axe Community: 2

Ready for another round of Meet The Staff? Revolution Axe Throwing in Boston, Massachusetts is known for more than just a unique and fun axe throwing experience. Guests keep coming back because of the incredible community of regulars, newbies, and staff alike! Today we’re pleased to introduce you to Brigitte, Josh, and Olivia, three members of the RevAxe family.

brigitte.jpg

Everyone meet Brigitte aka Lil’ Briggs! She’s been part of the RevAxe fam since we opened! Originally from New Mexico, you can find her doing anything and everything outside. She likes axe throwing because anyone can excel at it and loves RevAxe for it’s laid back atmosphere and unparalleled staff (her own totally unprompted words). Stop by and ask her about her fav trick shot “King Kong” that she invented and is [self-proclaimed] champion of! We promise you either get to see her nail it, or an adorable nervous laugh (possibly both).

josh.jpg

Allow us to introduce you to the coach with the best commute to work (he can walk here)! Josh has been a part of the RevAxe community since the beginning and when he’s not here he enjoys skiing and “copious amounts of video games” (as always, no judgement). He claims axe throwing runs in his blood as he’s from northern NH. Those of you in leagues know him as Frosty and might have had the privilege of seeing him do his fav trick shot, the 1.5 rotation with big axe! Be sure to ask to see pictures of his dog Jaxon when you see him!

olivia.jpg

Long-time coach Olivia’s favorite task is spraying down the targets. We recommend not interrupting her. If you ever catch her having a snack between coaching groups just know she’s eating all the cashews out of the staff trail mix. She loves axe throwing for the stress relief (and honestly, who doesn’t?). If she hears you’re going to the casino she WILL invite herself. Her favorite axe throwing game happens to be Blackjack, coincidence? We think NOT.

Stay tuned for more intros!

Safety Policy Update - Relaxed Restrictions

As of Saturday, May 29, 2021, we have been operating under relaxed restrictions in-line with state mandates and CDC guidance. Masks are longer be required for vaccinated customers. We do ask that customers who have not been fully vaccinated please wear a mask upon arrival and when moving about the facility. Masks may be removed when seated in designated areas.

unnamed (1).jpg

We trust our community and will not be asking for proof of vaccination. Let's work together to keep each other safe!
You may be wondering about some other details...

  1. Each group will still have their own private throwing bays. We will not be combining parties into shared sessions with one bay.

  2. Larger parties of 10+ are now able to book through the website!

  3. Groups over 20 members in size - contact us to book! (617) 944-9663

We're excited to see those smiling faces! As usual, your safety is our number 1 priority and we are closely monitoring any new updates.

Meet The Rev Axe Community: 1

Revolution Axe Throwing just outside of Boston, Massachusetts is home to some of the most charismatic, passionate coaches in the game! We’d like to introduce some of our staff members to you. Today, let’s get to know Kaleigh, Ma’chel, and Melanie!

2021-02-04_14-51-30.jpg

Kaleigh, who also goes by Kale, has been with RevAxe for about 1 year. Kale spent a week in the woods practicing spiritual awareness, acting, and wilderness survival skills which eventually lead her to axe throwing. (Which is just about the coolest origin story.) The best part about RevAxe, in her opinion, has to be the fun facts about her coworkers. It seems everyone has a crazy story or two to tell during a match or behind the bar. With no axe in hand, she works on theatre productions & concerts in the Boston area, works at a gym, and spends a slightly unreasonable amount of time on improv and sketch comedy. Kale is a big fan of bad dancing, Kesha (both then and now), and extra extra extra large sweaters for all seasons. She will firmly defend both the existence of aliens and Bono's choice to put that one album on everyone's phones.

2021-02-04_14-53-48.jpg

Ma’chel (Mosh) is a one-of-a-kind member of the Revolution Axe Throwing family who’s been with us for about 2 and a half years. He’s an amazing coach, talented voice actor, and has the unique ability to make any conversation into a hilarious memory. Hit him up if you’re in need of voice acting, he will NOT disappoint! Not sure what voice acting entails? Swing through and ask him! This wacky coach is always zipping left and right, with his favorite trick shot being The Spider-Man! His axe throwing fuel? Downeast cider. He ended up here because he wanted to find a new hobby that was different than what he’s used to, and he’s loved his second family at RevAxe ever since! When he’s not throwing, you can find Mosh performing theatre in the Boston area. He studies Theatre and Arts Administration at Suffolk University. He’s a local, and has a goofy Shi Tzu Mix named Sonic and an adorable black cat named Louis, and can eat buffalo wings like it’s nobody’s business.

2021-02-04_14-50-47.jpg

Allow us to introduce you to Melanie, our youngest coach and one of our more recent hires at RevAxe! Melanie got into axe throwing under the premise of gaining a new badass hobby and it’s been a love story ever since. Her favorite thing about RevAxe? Easily her coworkers. Everyone is truly as friendly and genuinely hilarious as they present themselves to be (as, thanks Mel), she’s never not laughing at work! When she’s not throwing axes, Melanie is a director and screenwriter with dreams of her films hitting the big screen someday. Until then, she attends Fitchburg State University in attempts to master the craft of filmmaking. She loves any and all movies (just ask her about your favorite, she definitely has an opinion on it) and attended a 12 hour Keanu Reeves movie marathon this past summer.

Be sure to schedule a booking to meet your next axe throwing coach!

Gift Cards - The Gift That Keeps On Throwing

During the holiday season, we all have that one difficult person on our list. Maybe it’s your impossibly picky mother in law, maybe it’s your cousin whose interests change by the day, or maybe it’s that one “friend” of yours who thinks he already discovered everything new and noteworthy first (am I projecting? maybe).

What do these people have in common, you ask? Year after year, choosing a gift for them seems like training for an Olympic event. An incredible obscure Olympic event at that - like curling or canoe slalom.

How many “Top Ten Best Gifts For [insert relative here]” style guides have you skimmed so far this year? How many robes, luxury candles, and smart watches can one person desire?!

IMG_2704.jpg

Now I’m not saying you’ll become Santa overnight (unless you’re Tim Allen) but as a self-proclaimed gift giving expert, I have a few tips for you. Follow these simple steps and you’ll be regarded as an incredible gift-giver as well.

  1. Prioritize small businesses and local businesses - Everyone loves to support small businesses. Don’t overlook your favorite shops and venues in town! These businesses appreciate your patronage more than the average chain and they’re a unique and thoughtful gift.

  2. Throughout the year, write down things people say they want - Open a new note in your phone (and make sure it’s private!) where you list out all of the people you plan to buy gifts for. Whenever those people mention desiring something in your price range, jot it down as an option for holiday gifts. I’ve surprised so many people by knowing exactly what they want because they forgot they mentioned wanting it!

  3. Experiential gift cards are the future of gift cards - How many coffee shop and mall store gift cards will be in your stocking this year? Instead, consider gifting your loved ones an experience. That’s right - a gift card they can redeem to do something fun, not just buy something. A gift card that inspires memories and handsome dating profile pics. We’re talking about a Rev Axe gift card folks. We’ve got an array of gift card options available for you to choose from, including everything from small group packages to league registrations. Perfect for beginners, experts, or even people who have never heard of axe throwing venues, a night at Revolution Axe Throwing in Everett is the best cold-weather activity.

Picture this: it’s dusk, snowing lightly. It’s that weird “in between the holidays and NYE” time where you have no idea what day it is and all you’ve eaten is leftovers and cheese. You’ve invited a few friends to try out an axe throwing venue nearby because you received a gift card here that you haven’t stopped thinking about. You pull up after a short ride and - look at that - ample parking just outside of Boston?! A true holiday miracle. You’re wearing a cozy new flannel, closed-toe shoes, and your mask is helping keep your face warm. You walk into the spacious, social distance-practicing venue and are greeted by your coach, congratulating yourself on your intuitive outfit selection. You fit right in. Local craft beer? Don’t mind if you do. You and your friends try out a few shots, then compete in a round robin tournament. Oh what fun, as they say! You finish off the evening throwing a clutch, winning the tournament, and signing the wooden bar with a fresh Sharpie. Your coach takes a few photos of your group to remember the evening, and one of your friends is convinced she will be joining the next round of league registrations.

Sound like a dream? Well, it’s an attainable one! Consider purchasing a Revolution Axe Gift Card for your pickiest loved ones and give the gift of a memorable experience this year. They might just invite you to come with them. Bonus: it’s digital meaning it’s delivered instantly and no wrapping required!

Axe Throwing For The Whole Family

There are more than a few common misconceptions about millennials. Some people think we spend too much time on social media, others think we spend too much money on avocados. But the one misconception that we’re here to shatter today is that axe throwing is just for the youngsters!

Although your first thought may be a Canadian, bearded, flannel-clad, urban “lumberjack” somewhere in their 20s-30s, you’re actually thinking of my cousin Jack. In fact, many of our best throwers are moms, grandfathers, great-aunts, and second cousins twice removed. That’s because Revolution Axe Throwing in Everett, MA makes it easy for anyone to become a seasoned thrower. Part of every session includes one-on-one guided instruction with our talented coaching staff, and plenty of time to practice your one-handed or two-handed throwing. Our round-robin tournament style games let you engage in friendly competition against other family members for the chance to sign the coveted bar. You might even be convinced to join our next round of leagues.

John, 93, with his first bullseye. He’s almost as proud as we were!

John, 93, with his first bullseye. He’s almost as proud as we were!

We know you’ve been cooped up with your family for months now. COVID-19 has made it difficult to find safe & sanitary activities for groups (and if you’re like us, you’re well over the book reading and board games phase of quarantine). Our small group reservations make it easy to go axe throwing with families between 2 - 4 members in size. Got a lot more siblings? We accept groups up to 9 members for a large group reservation!

Speaking of COVID-19, we have enhanced safety guidelines to make sure your experience is safe & sanitized.

The best part is, axe throwing is fun and exciting - you never know who might be a natural, though we tend to root for the underdog! Other group activities simply can’t compete. Whoever heard of family dart throwing? Family billiards night? Bowling - who’s she?

So there you have it. Axe throwing is for everyone - not just millennials. In fact, it’s better when shared with a group. There’s one misconception we’d like to keep, though. Don’t take away our plaid flannels.

New Safety Policies For Our Reopening

Unprecedented times call for unprecedented safety measures here at Revolution Axe! We have always been cautious of your group’s safety while throwing, but now more than ever, we’re committed to making sure you stay healthy while throwing. With our additional policies in place, axe throwing can be a safe activity for those who are eager to venture out responsibly.

IMG_1600 (1).jpg

We are reopening our doors and are excited to welcome you back from a safe distance! Things might look a little different around here, but you can be confident that our new policies were put in place to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19.

Read below for a list of updated policies:

  1. Guests are able to book their own private (and distanced) throwing bay! All group sizes are now getting their own designated space, and will not be sharing space with other guests.

  2. Hand sanitizer is readily available on premises, made locally by our friends at Short Path Distillery!

  3. Face coverings are required. Masks are required when inside our facility except when eating or drinking. Revolution Axe branded masks are for sale on premises for anyone who needs one (or wants another!)

  4. All areas are cleaned and sanitized regularly, including axe handles and bays. We're sanitizing between every group.

  5. We've reduced capacity to allow for extra space for each group.

  6. Staff and patrons with any COVID symptoms are not allowed on premises.

  7. Small groups will not be combined.

  8. We are accepting reservations only, no walk-ins for the time being, call ahead!

  9. We will be using plexiglass barriers for added safety.

  10. During nice weather we will keep doors open and our Big Ass Fan moving for increased airflow.

We plan to treat group visits like “private events,” meaning you will be separated from other guests and have your own space in the venue.

We really appreciate your patience while we do our part to flatten the curve here in Massachusetts. Although it is exciting that Revolution Axe is opening soon, we want to make sure both our guests and staff stay safe long-term!

How To Make A Homemade Axe Throwing Target

Want to work on your axe throwing skills from home? Why not make your own backyard target to practice! Check out this video where Greg from Revolution Axe in Boston, MA will show you how to make your own axe throwing target from a single 2x10 inch board and a few household supplies.

Learn how we make our target boards, and how you can make your own at home!

1. Choosing The Wood You Will Use

We work with pine, but you can use any soft wood, including spruce. It’s really important to look for boards that don’t have too many knots, especially in the center - you don’t want axes bouncing off your bullseye. Also, keep an eye out for darker or heavier pieces of wood that might be denser and harder to stick with your axe. The board should be a 2x10 inch board, 4 feet in length. (Usually sold in lengths of 8 feet or longer).

The left board is perfect! The center and right boards are knotty and dense respectively.

The left board is perfect! The center and right boards are knotty and dense respectively.

2. Gathering The Other Supplies You’ll Need

You only need a few more supplies to make your axe throwing target:

  • Paint markers or Sharpies - We use paint markers with 15 millimeter tips in red, blue, black, and green, but at home you can use permanent markers.

  • Drill and one screw

  • Piece of string at least 15 inches in length

  • Soda or beer can

Here are some of the materials we use here at Revolution Axe, reach out if you have any questions on how to make yourself a jig like these!

3. Find the center of the board

Using a tape measure, measure out 2 feet from the length of the board from top to bottom (the height). Next find the center from left to right (the width), which should be about just over 4.5 inches in. Place your screw in the center, and screw it in so it sticks out but doesn’t move, about an inch or so in.

Feel free to move the bullseye as needed to avoid knots (we didn’t do that on this one…)

Feel free to move the bullseye as needed to avoid knots (we didn’t do that on this one…)

4. Preparing Your String

Your piece of string is the guide to placing your bullseye and rings in the correct space from the screw on your target. An axe throwing board has one bullseye and 2 larger rings around it. The diameters and radii for the rings are as follows:

Bullseye: 7 inches in diameter, 3.5 inch radius

First ring (red): 17 inches in diameter, 8.5 inch radius

Second ring (blue): 27 inches in diameter, 13.5 inch radius

We will use the radius lengths as a guide. Tie a small loop at the top of your string and stretch the length of the string (including the loop) along a ruler. Mark out on your string where 3.5 inches is for the bullseye, 8.5 inches is for the red ring, and 13.5 inches is for the blue ring, all from the end of the loop.

Keeping it real basic, feel free to get as fancy as you’d like!

Keeping it real basic, feel free to get as fancy as you’d like!

5. Drawing the bullseye and rings

Put your loop of string around the screw. Using your 3.5 inch mark as a guide on your string, hold the sharpie next to your string and “swing” your marker and string around the screw (check out the video for a visual on this!) This will create a full circle for your bullseye. Since we are using only one plank, this will be the only full circle. Repeat this step for the red ring at the 8.5 inch mark on your string, which will end up looking like two curved lines around your bullseye. You can repeat that for the blue ring (13.5 inch radius) after that. Note that in the video, we only made one ring around the bullseye.

Using the mark on the string as a guide, hold it next to the marker and swing it in a circle. It doesn’t have to be perfect!

Using the mark on the string as a guide, hold it next to the marker and swing it in a circle. It doesn’t have to be perfect!

6. Drawing the clutch

The clutch can be drawn using the base of a soda or beer can. Place the bottom of the can 15 inches above the center of the bullseye and just over 4.5 inches from the side. Trace around the bottom of the can to form your circle, and fill it in with green color if you wish! Be sure to use the outer diameter of the can, unless you want to go expert mode on your clutches, of course. (Pro-tip: you can draw multiple clutches on your board to help it last longer!)

Trace along the outside of the can (the outer diameter, not the base)

Trace along the outside of the can (the outer diameter, not the base)

7. Placing your target

The bullseye should be 63 inches (5’3’’) off the ground. Use a drill or nails to affix your target to a tree or other base (it’s a bit more work, but some throwers make a stand for their target). Please, make sure you’re throwing in a safe area. You neighbors don’t want your axe to knock the hat off their granny!
